It’s been 12 months since I officially began my search engine endeavors in the form of this blog. The last time I updated the Google optimization results of my blog here was in April, precisely on the 17th. Now we’ve moved forward another 6 months, and it’s time to revisit the results. I haven’t been overly active in producing new content for the past six months. During the summer, there might have even been around a 2-month hiatus when I didn’t even open the page’s admin panel. Nevertheless, the results have improved nicely since the last time, even though updates have been less frequent.
If you’d like to refresh your memory and see the results I achieved from Google optimization 6 months ago, you can read them here.
Actions I took in the last 6 months:
- Publishing a search engine optimization guide on the pages (landing page + guide)
- Editing meta descriptions and meta titles to be more persuasive in hopes of a better click-through rate
- Improving the mobile version of the page (headings alignment was a bit off in the mobile view, might still be)
- Making minor adjustments to the layout here and there Making slight corrections to old texts
Summarized Google optimization results for the past 12 months:
RESULTS:
- 173 instances of Site Visitors from search results (number of visitors doubled compared to the previous period)
- 0.5% Average Click-Through Rate
- 38,000 Impressions in search results (number of impressions nearly sevenfold compared to the previous period)
- Average Ranking Position: 56th
Results Breakdown
Approximately a week after the last search engine optimization update, the page views of my blog from search results started to grow significantly. A quick glance at the results reveals that the number of impressions in search results has taken a considerable leap towards improvement compared to the previous time frame. The page has begun to rank very well for new keywords on Google. The only issue is that they are still buried deep in the search results, making it difficult to get clicks. While the articles gain visibility, being on the sixth or seventh page of search results makes it really challenging for them to generate traffic to the site. This has led to a drop in the click-through rate from search results, going from 1.4% to 0.5%. Due to the numerous new keywords, my average ranking position in search engines has also decreased somewhat.
However, not all of the keywords for my pages have remained at the bottom of the search results; there are also words for which I have successfully secured a place on Google’s first search result page according to Search Console. Looking at the list above, which represents my best keywords, it can be observed that the majority of my page’s search engine traffic consists of the traffic brought by keywords highly relevant to the blog.
What’s next from here?
The next step would be to start publishing new articles on the blog again. In order to properly establish the page’s presence on Google for various keywords, there needs to be a lot of content behind them. My previous articles have significantly improved the site’s visibility on Google, but the goal is to increase visibility on the 1st and 2nd pages of search results. Those articles that are already fortunate to rank on the first pages of the search engine might undergo some slight optimization in their meta descriptions, aiming for a higher click-through rate.
The initial enthusiasm might currently manifest as a slight challenge in generating relevant traffic with the right keywords. In the beginning, I completely skipped keyword research, which would have been helpful in finding more specific keywords with less competition but still offering good visibility on Google. Therefore, in addition to writing, it wouldn’t hurt to conduct some keyword research, which would greatly ease the selection of future topics. Moreover, I intend to delve deeper into the benefits of backlinks and potentially start pursuing them.
